Who introduced you to fly fishing?
Can you tell us a little about your home waters and the fish you pursue there?
Trout and Saltwater. Our local trout waters are your typical New England streams, mostly small and full of native and stocked trout. Our Saltwater fishery is great I like fishing most of the time in waders and in tidal rivers. We fish for Striped Bass, Hickory Shad, Bluefish, False Albacore, and Bonita.
What's the height of the season for you? What time of year is your personal favorite?
Both Spring and Fall.
What are your favorite travel destinations? What's on the bucket list?
Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, mostly for dry fly fishing! Salmon fishing in Russia!
What you like most about Thomas and Thomas rods? Which rods do you fish?
Great action, I like the diversity one has to chose from in so many rods! I like the new Solar and Helix rods for the tidal rivers I fish in the saltwater. LPSII's for the freshwater and the TNT rods as well.
What's your current go-to fly?
For the freshwater a soft hackle dry fly that I have developed now for more that 20 years. In the saltwater my shrimp pattern, ( Ed's Shrimp).
Other than fly tackle, what piece of gear do you find indispensable?
My stripping basket and hook hone for the saltwater! For freshwater, Amadou Fly Drying Patch.
My favorite thing about guiding is:
Teaching my clients!
From the angler’s point of view, what do you see as the main value of going on a guided trip?
What can new fisherman expect to get out of a guided trip? My favorite thing to teach a client is ...
So many things, but first, casting and reading the water. Also, so important streamside etiquette and having fun.
What's your ideal lunch when on the water? What do you actually pack?
Lots of waters, ham and turkey sandwiches, fruit, granola bars, and a small bottle of wine!
What fly fishing blogs/magazines do you read regularly?
Fly Fisherman, American Angler, Fly Tyer magazine, and more.
When I'm not fishing you'll find me:
